The decoration of our lawn with short and trees is incomplete without proper mulch. Layers of different materials can be spread, or a sheet can be applied to the soil. This process is called mulching. To enhance the appearance of your garden you can use mulch. We select mulch of complementary color. A mulch of dull background is used for plants with dark and vibrant colors and vice versa. If we go with the color wheel, we should select two colors patched making the 90-degree angle with each other. For example, lavender is of gray color. So, the orange-red background will be suitable for this type of work.

The spread of unwanted plants can be restricted by lying of proper mulch. The absence of sunlight and water will not let them grow, and thus it will preserve the fertility of soil whereas the desired plant can get proper nutrition easily. Mulch is also crucial for keeping the moisture of the land for a long time. In regions with low humidity if we plant a sprout of the tropical zone it will suffer from lack of moisture. A mulch of a plastic type here comes into play decreasing the rate of evaporation from the surface.

Variety: Compost mulch is beneficial for flower bed as seeds cannot grow from this mulch. This eventually restricts unwanted plants to grow. It is also preferable to get rid of the phototoxicity problem.

Rubber mulch: Rubber mulch is also widely used for playground surfaces as it is elastic reducing the chance of injury. Rubber nuggets of rejected tires are used to produce this mulch. In cold areas, it is beneficial as it keeps the soil warmer than surroundings as it is a natural insulator of heat. But rubber is quite inflammable, and some rubber materials are toxic which reacts with soil.

Plastic mulch: Plastic mulch is also an essential member of mulch family. It is widely used in crop fields. One of the significant benefits of it is that it eliminates the problem of irrigation difficulties. In a thin plastic sheet, some holes are made to grow plants. It ensures zero weed growth and high retention of soil moisture. Drip irrigation lessens the use of water. Only the deposition and recycling of plastic wastes becomes a problem sometimes.

Other mulch’s: Another dominant variety of mulch is of organic type. Bark chips, Peat moss, grass clippings, and leaves belong to this family. A leaf of oak and other deciduous trees are used as mulch generally in winter. Because of decomposition, they adhere to make an even surface which keeps water inside the soil. During winter these mulches are removed. A byproduct of timber cutting is wood chips which also work as moisture retainer and heat insulator. Peat moss in dried form turns into a thick mulch.

Straw mulch is also useful for dry surfaces mostly used for vegetable plants. They have pH rating almost 7.0, so purely nontoxic. The only disadvantage is their tendency of getting contaminated by weed seeds.

Colored mulch is also is also catchy for home Lawns. Different chemicals artificially color them
Not only can that used carpets be used as mulch too. When we need a mulch of Porous type so that water can penetrate efficiently, we can use stone mulch.
