We love trees and prefer not to remove them, but when a tree is beyond saving, our field arborists will remove it with professional care to your property and surrounding plant life. Below is a list ot services offered by Urban Arborist to create your one of a kind, healthy, natural tree-scape.
Pruning is the most common maintenance procedure performed on trees and each cut has the potential to change the tree forever. It takes several years of class room and hands on training to become a skilled and proficient pruning technician. Our field arborists are trained to prune in accordance with the ANSI standards but all have to be accountable to the critical eye of the owner, Chuck Schiek. Mature trees require pruning to remove deadwood or dying branches to maintain safety and health of the tree. Pruning to thin the canopy (to remove live branches) is only done when the trees canopy is too dense or heavy. When crown thinning is required, live branch removal is concentrated on the outer portions of the canopy leaving as much of the live interior branches as possible. Our certified arborists are trained to determine what type of pruning will best suit your trees as well as your needs.
Tree and Shrub Fertilization
Fertilization programs can be very beneficial in maintaining tree health. If not replenished macro and micro nutrients can be leached through the soil or can be used up by trees, shrubs and turf. Over fertilization or fertilizing when unnecessary can be damaging to your plants or just simply wasteful. Our certified arborists are trained to recognize nutrient deficiencies , we have a licensed agronomist to call on and we do utilize soil test laboratories when conditions dictate.. The Urban Arborist team can determine how, why and when your plants need to be fertilized.
An ideal soil is comprised of 50% soil, 25% macro pore space and 25% micro pore space. Living within the soil are millions of microorganisms, vertebrates, earthworms, nematodes, arthropods, fungi, protozoa and bacteria all which play an essential role in the soil food web and are absolutely essential in providing our plants with the moisture and nutrients they require. Urban Arborist has been utilizing the power of beneficial biologicals by introducing them into the soil for over a decade now, the results speak for themselves.
There can be a strong argument made that proper mulching can be the single most important cultural practice that a home owner can do for their trees. Mulching can reduce injury to your trees by creating a buffer zone to keep machinery away from the stem and base of the tree. When properly done, mulching will improve your trees root system by maintaining a more consistent soil temperature, retaining moisture, encouraging micro organism activity over time. There are some simple do’s and don’ts to follow which we would be happy to go over with you.
Although our business is caring for trees, circumstances sometime necessitate their removal. When this is the case, Urban Arborist will remove trees and shrubs proficiently and safely.

Cable and Bracing
Cabling and bracing techniques are used to reduce the risk of primary branch failure. In large trees high strength steel cables are installed in the upper crown of the tree to reduce movement. . Attachment of the cable to the branch is done by using J-Hooks or Eye bolt hardware all in accordance with ANSI standards.. Structurally weak or damaged limbs can be supported using various bracing techniques for the purpose of preventing large branch failure. These same bracing techniques are often used when a tree has failed but the removal of the tree or of the failed branch is not desired. Your certified arborist can identify weak points in the tree and make the proper recommendations.
Insect and Disease Management
Insect and disease management starts with maintaining plant health and vigor. In this area there are very few insect pests or diseases which will single handedly attack and kill a healthy tree. Generally it is a combination of stresses which cause the tree to decline making if vulnerable to secondary vectors which ultimately are the demise of the plant. When it is necessary to spray a tree to control a disease applications need to begin before signs of the disease begin to show up. When you are spraying trees to control insect pests they generally need to be present at the time of application. Our certified arborists can set up a monitoring program to identify infestations before they reach damaging levels. When control treatments are necessary Urban Arborist can apply environmentally safe products which will effectively suppress insect populations.
